COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING
Community-based learning provides our students the opportunity to gain real world career experience while in high school. Cooperative education, as it is called, is available to all juniors and seniors and places them in local businesses working with a supervisor on a job site. Opportunities for internships during the school day exist with many local businesses. Unlike an after-school job, students receive high school credit for the experience. Participating students develop job-related skills and expand their understanding of careers in their field of choice, all while establishing valuable work experience.
Healthcare
Present and past experiences in health care include Geisinger Medical Center, Chiropractic Care Center, and Leighow Veterinary Clinic.
Business
Local business such as Press Enterprise, First Columbia Bank & Trust, Co. as well as United Way have sponsored internships in the past.
Education
From Columbia County Head Start to Bloomsburg University, opportunities exist at all levels of education, including within BASD programs.
Manufacturing
Our area is host to extensive manufacturing and distribution. Internship opportunities exist in businesses like Dyco Industries, Wise Snacks, and beyond.
